BID IN THE SALEROOM

Register at the front desk in advance of the auction, where you will receive a paddle number with which to bid. Take your seat in the saleroom and when you wish to bid, raise your paddle and catch the auctioneer’s attention.

LEAVE A COMMISSION BID

You may leave a commission bid via the website, by telephone, by email or in person at Mallams’ salerooms. Simply state the maximum price you would like to pay for a lot and we will purchase it for you at the lowest possible price, while taking the reserve price and other bids into account.

BID OVER THE TELEPHONE

Book a telephone line before the sale, stating which lots you would like to bid for, and we will call you in time for you to bid through one of our staff in the saleroom. If you can’t get to the saleroom in person, a telephone bid still allows you live participation.

Overseas Bidders

Overseas clients will need to provide proof of identity (a scan of a passport or a national ID card) and payment card details prior to the auction.

Viewing the Catalogue

Catalogues for each specialist sales are published approximately one week in advance, and you may request an Auction Catalogue via the Auction pages, at an auction house or over the phone..

Buyer’s Premium

Each lot is subject to premium on the hammer price of 20% plus VAT – a total of 24%. For example:

Hammer price – £100
Premium at 20% of £100 = £20
VAT at 20% of £20 = £4
Total price – £124

PAYMENT

You may pay for your purchases in several ways: debit card, credit card (on which there is a 1.9% plus VAT surcharge), bank transfer, cheque or cash.

FREE VALUATION

Arrange for a free valuation, and if we feel the item is suitable for sale, we’ll advise you which sale would be best and will arrange for the item to come to the appropriate saleroom. Items can be brought into our salerooms for valuation or home visits can be arranged by appointment with our specialists.

CATALOGUE & NOTIFICATION

You will receive a catalogue (if your item has been entered into a specialist sale) and a sale notification by post in advance of the sale, usually a week in advance.

UNSOLD ITEMS

Should your item not sell, we do not normally charge a fee unless we deem the reserve to be at such a level to make it unreasonable and prohibitive to it selling.

PRICE & RESERVE

With our specialists expertise we will discuss and propose suggested estimates to you based on current market prices and trends. If appropriate, we will agree a reserve price on items with you prior to the sale.

AUCTION & PAYMENT

Your item will be entered into auction, and you can come to the sale or watch live online if you want to see your item selling in real time. If it sells, you will receive a cheque within 18 working days, as long as we have received payment.

How to Arrange a Valuation:

1. Send details and an image to any of our salerooms via email and one of our specialists will get back to you.

2. Bring the item into one of our offices by appointment or on one of our open valuation mornings.

3. Call and arrange for one of our valuers to visit you at home for a spoken free of charge valuation.

VENDORS COMMISSION

Vendors Commission Rates – 15% on the first £3,000, 10% thereafter per lot
Loss and Damage Warranty – 1.5% of the hammer price
Lotting and Internet fee – £5 per lot sold
Illustration charges (including web illustration) – £10 per lot sold

An example of our fees: if your lot sells for £1000 and was illustrated in the catalogue, the fees would be:

15% commission – £150
1.5% insurance charge – £15
Lotting fee – £5
Photography Charges including web illustration: £10 for a standard size image, £50 for a half page image and £90 for a full page image

Plus VAT

Total fees charged – £216.00 inc VAT, so you receive £784.00
