Large porcelain ewer from the ‘Elements (Fire) series created a huge interest at the Mallams Country House sale in Cheltenham
Based on a series of jugs produced by Meissen after a design by J J Kändler, one of the leading sculptors at the Meissen porcelain factory. This jug (lot 310) demonstrated the remarkable design and execution skills of their famous factory. It had been brought in to one of Mallams’ valuation days in Henley.
Despite the poor condition, the lot generated considerable interest from both UK and overseas bidders and although it carried a low estimate went on to sell for £9,500 (hammer price)
