CHEQUERS COURT

CHEQUERS COURT, BUCKINGHAM. TWO ALBUMS The Country Residence of The British Prime Minister was given to the Nation by Sir Arthur Lee in 1917. See image p43, as a thank-offering for her deliverance in the Great War of 1914-1918 as a place of rest and recreation of her Prime Minister for ever. Sir Arthur Lee (later Viscount Lee of Fareham) indirectly acquired the property from the Astley family and these albums and the following lot are from the Estate of Lady Florence Astley and thence by descent to the vendor. ALBUM 1. The Chequers Court Visitors Book, March 1889-October 1891. Approx. 37 pp. of dated entries plus photographs, correspondence and press cuttings spanning the 20th century. 4to. 265x210mm. full calf. Gilt lettering, binding loose, generally much used. ALBUM 2 . An oblong Fo. 320x435mm. An Album containing approx. 75 views of the interior of Chequers Court and Environs, correspondence, inc. Clement Atlee, Family Tree, and general history of the house. ½ calf with glt. Lettering, binding broken and much used. 2
