An 18th century Herbarium - A collection of pressed and dried plant specimens presented in two folios inscribed and dated 1781-3. The collection was formed by Edward Hamner 1758-1821, so signed. Barrister and Botanist of Simpson Buckinghamshire. Edward was the son of Sir Job Walden Hamner 1st Baronet of Bettisfield Park, Wrexham and related to Sir Thomas Hamner author of 'The Garden Book' published in 1659. Many of the samples in the collection came from Bettisfield Park and Simpson.

The First Album has 134 samples with index, the second with 135. Each is mounted on the right hand page with location, date, Latin and Common name according to Linnaean taxonomy (Carl Linnaeus 1707-1778) and references devised by William Withering (1741-1799).

Each volume with watermarked paper bound in marbled boards with patinated brass clasps, fair condition for age, 19th century lot number applied (400 x 260mm)
