Tibet, 14th/15th Century
seated in lalitasana on a double-lotus pedestal with the pendant leg resting on a lotus blossom extending from the base, clad in a dhoti with incised patterns, with a lotus blossom beside her left shoulder, the face flanked by large pendant earrings and surmounted by a tiara, the hair pulled into a high chignon, 12.5cm high, weight 660 grams approx
Provenance: the late Oliver Watson (1949-2023), Emeritus Professor of Islamic Art and Architecture and curator of Islamic Art at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford and the School of Oriental and African Studies, London.
