Provenance:

The late Oliver Watson (1949-2023), British Studio Pottery expert at the V & A, Emeritus Professor of Islamic Art and Architecture and curator of Islamic Art at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford and the School of Oriental Studies, London.

Oliver Watson curated the pottery component of the 1985 Tate Britain exhibition St. Ives 1936–64 and contributed an essay on ceramics to the 1989 catalogue of the first major exhibition outside Britain to celebrate the work of St. Ives artists and potters, when St Ives potters toured Japan. In 1990 he published his groundbreaking book, British Studio Ceramics: a catalogue of the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, which was reprinted in 1993 as Studio Pottery: Twentieth-Century British Ceramics in the Victoria and Albert Museum Collection.

With signs of wear and marks, some small chips in places.
