Dimensions: approximately 373cm wide x 167cm high

Provenance:

Purchased from the Gordon Reece Gallery, Knaresborough.

The painted panels probably originally part of room dividers and later mounted as a folding screen, with some losses, signs of old restoration to the paper surface, losses to the paint in some places. The left hand screen with marks and slight losses to the background above the irises, some loss to the paint to the iris leaves at the lower edge, some restoration to the fold between this and the next screen particularly in the blue areas in between the ducks. The second panel in from the left with a split to the paper below the duck and across above the white irises, further losses to the paintwork in minor areas. The left centre screen with some restoration and folds particularly to the middle to upper left section with possibly repaired tears approximately 50 to 60cm long. The right centre panel with some splits to the paper and old repairs. The second panel in from the far right with split to the top left corner of the gilded section approximately 12cm long. Further overpainting to the crane and losses to the gilt trellis work. The right hand panel with further losses to the gilt trellis work, some further overpainting. The condition overall generally with marks and signs of old restoration to the painted surfaces.
