On a spring evening at Trinity College, Oxford, Mallams Auctioneers proudly sponsored a talk by Jussi Pylkkänen, former Global President of Christie’s, as part of a special event presented by Oxford Art Society Associates.
Now available to watch in full, the talk offers unique insight into the art market through the eyes of one of its most experienced figures. From the record-breaking auction of Leonardo da Vinci's Salvator Mundi which he sold for $450 million, to encounters with works by Monet and Picasso in extraordinary private homes, Jussi’s reflections bring decades of high-profile art sales to life.
He also looked ahead, sharing his thoughts on emerging and consistent names in the contemporary market, including Jenny Saville, Peter Doig, and David Hockney, and explored the topic of philanthropy in art collecting.
It was an evening of insight, reflection, and storytelling and we are pleased to share the full video below for those who couldn’t attend.
What you’ll discover in this talk:
▪️Behind-the-scenes tales from landmark auctions
▪️Insights into the future direction of the contemporary art market
▪️Market trends and predictions for contemporary artists including David Hockney, Peter Doig, and Jenny Saville
