Mary Fedden: Four Works Achieve £17,200 at Mallams Oxford Auction

Mallams were delighted to feature four paintings by the celebrated British artist Mary Fedden (1915–2012) in our latest Modern Art and Design auction on the 4^th & 5^th December. Known for her vibrant still lifes and evocative landscapes, Fedden’s distinctive style captures a timeless charm that continues to enchant collectors and art lovers alike.

A classic example of Fedden’s mastery of still life, the saturated colours with a calm arrangement, interacting with everyday objects in The Blue Dish brings out both simplicity and elegance. This piece sold for £7,200 hammer price to a UK phone bidder.

Fedden’s love of floral subjects is seen through this unusual composition. The soft, yet vibrant palette fills the flowers with a lively, almost tangible presence, showcasing her ability to breathe life into her work and the painting sold for £5,000 hammer price.

This coastal scene offers a glimpse into Fedden’s storytelling. The maternal figure against the seaside scenery creates an intimate moment between the mother and child, capturing the calmness of life by the water. The 25cm x 19cm painting sold for £2,800 hammer price to a private UK bidder.
